At the start of OTAs, this was a three player competition with Matt Haack, who was the starter three years ago, Sam Martin, who has been the starter the past two years, and undrafted free agent Jack Browning.

However, the Bills would release Haack recently to create a roster spot for Gable Steveson and it is now between the starter from last year and the rookie. This is an interesting competition as the Bills have shown in the past they are not afraid to go with the unproven option at these types of positions.

It was a few years ago that Tyler Bass would be named the starter early in preseason over veteran Stephen Hauschka as the team's field goal kicker. If Browning can prove to be a good placeholder for field goal attempts, it might be enough for him to beat out the veteran and win the job.
