The Buffalo Bills are kicking off the final part of their offseason workouts this week with mandatory minicamp. The coaches and players will use this time as they continue to prepare for the 2024 season and it will be the final time they are together until training camp in late July.
During this week, spots on the depth chart can't necessarily be won but it does help give the coaching staff an idea of what it might look like when the team regroups at St. John Fisher University. With that in mind, these are seven depth chart battles worth noting during this week of minicamp.
7 key depth chart battles to watch during Buffalo Bills minicamp
Sedrick Van Pran-Granger vs. David Edwards
The first depth chart battle is between two players who might not be competing with each other directly but could have an impact on the other leading up to the 2024 season. The Bills drafted Sedrick Van Pran-Granger in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after primarily playing center at the University of Georgia.
If the rookie can impress the coaching staff, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he wins the starting job. In that scenario, Connor McGovern would move back to left guard where he started every game this past year.
McGovern was expected to be the replacement for Mitch Morse, who was released this offseason, at center and would stay in that spot if the rookie can't win the starting job. In that case, David Edwards would be in line to start at left guard and he certainly has a say in this battle and why it really is between him and the rookie.
The coaching staff is going to want their best five protecting Josh Allen so that means Edwards and Van Pran-Granger will need to make their case for being on the field.
