O'Cyrus Torrence is the key to the offensive line

I like Ryan Bates as much as anyone but the position battle between him and O’Cyrus Torrence is a pivotal one for the Bills’ offense.  The line can be good with Bates in there as one of the starting guards but if Torrence can win the job, that would be huge for this offensive line, and here’s why.

Torrence weighs nearly 330 pounds and I don’t know when the last time the Bills had someone of his talent and size on the line.  What he does for the interior of this line is gives the team someone they can run behind with power and confidence.

But what it also does is free up Bates to focus on backing up the guard positions and center.  With Mitch Morse’s concussion concerns, having someone like Bates to fill in if needed is a must.  If Bates has to step in, I believe he can do so without missing much of a beat on the line.

Thus far in camp, it looks like Torrence is the guy and starting to take over the starting role, while Bates has been seen practicing at center.  The team hasn’t made any official roster moves or declarations, so for all intents and purposes, the battle hasn’t been decided.
