5 Recent Buffalo Bills additions already on the chopping block in 2024
DaWuane Smoot - Edge
DaWuane Smoot enjoyed success in the NFL early in his career, producing 22.5 sacks between 2019 and 2022: however, he had only one last season. He's always been more of a situational player, having started only 17 of 99 career games, and in Coach McDermott's rotation-heavy scheme, he is a good fit. That said, Buffalo has solid depth with AJ Epenesa, Casey Toohill, Kameron Cline, and Kinglsey Jonathan. 2024 rookie Javon Soloman will also figure into the mix.
Last season, Smoot suffered an injury and played just over 300 snaps. His PFF grades were abysmal though, earning run defense and pass rush grades of 38.4 and 50.0 respectively. His overall grade of 42.4 isn't something to write home about. He was originally a third-round selection of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017, but his best years are likely behind him. He suffered the Achilles injury in 2022 and has not looked the same since. Could he fare better in year two since the injury, yes but so far, it's not looking good for him to make the Bills 2024 roster.
