5) Running Back

The first position on this list is running back as Latavius Murray, Ty Johnson, and Damien Harris are all set to be free agents. This leaves only James Cook and Nyheim Hines as the only two running backs under contract in 2024.

The concern for the Bills is that Hines is returning from an ACL injury suffered prior to training camp and it remains to be seen if he will be 100% in time for the season. Even if he is, Cook and Hines are very similar running backs and neither is built to be a back for short-yardage or goal-line situations.

Ideally, the Bills will enter 2024 with two more running backs in case Hines is not fully ready. The reason though it ranks as low as it does is because running backs are usually pretty cost-effective and easy to find, either in free agency or on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.
