1.) There is now a backup quarterback competition

The MVP of the game was none other than quarterback Matt Barkley, who was the backup quarterback to Kyle Allen heading into this game. Allen was the starting quarterback and he finished the day completing eight passes off of fifteen attempts for 122 yards and an interception. He finished the day with a QB rating of 52.6. On the other hand, Barkley was the complete opposite when he got his opportunity to step onto the field.

Barkley only had one incompletion off of fifteen attempts and he passed for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Sure, Barkley went up against the backups’ backups but he put on more of a far better performance than Allen. According to Matt Parrino, Sean McDermott was asked if there was indeed an open competition for the backup quarterback position and McDermott said yes.

With this kind of performance displayed by Barkley, the competition to see who will back up Josh Allen is now in effect moving forward.
