The Buffalo Bills preseason schedule is now underway and they picked up their first win against rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts, winning 23-19. This is the second consecutive season in which the Bills hosted the Colts in their preseason opener and the Bills ended up with the victory. The Bills managed to put up points on the board each quarter and played almost perfect defense in the first half.

While the Bills showed their ups, there are still areas of improvement as well. As a team, they were called on eight penalties for 59 yards, gave up three sacks for 28 yards and had two turnovers (the interception thrown by Kyle Allen ended up being a pick-six).

Improvements are what makes each week interesting and the next two preseason games the Bills have will show what weaknesses the Bills may have going into the regular season. However, the Bills can enjoy this victory as they start to prepare for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their second preseason game.

Here are the five key takeaways from the Bills’ first preseason game.
