Kaiir Elam
The final player may be a surprise as the four players listed previously were long shots to make the 53-man roster to begin with and more than likely would be released with a chance to return to the practice squad. The Buffalo Bills probably won't be releasing Kaiir Elam, their first round pick from 2022, but certainly could make a push to try and trade him before the season.
Elam has struggled to make an impact on the defense the first two seasons with the Bills and certainly has had chances. However, this past season he was a healthy scratch to begin the season and after starting two games would end up on injured reserve.
The biggest issue seems to be that Kaiir Elam doesn't fit the defensive scheme that McDermott likes to run. He is better suited in man coverage that allows him to play closer to the line and press wide receivers where the Bills typically are running zone.
When considering the starters seem pretty well set with Christian Benford and Rasul Douglas, the window to trade a player like Elam and get any kind of return is closing quickly. Unless he shows tremendous improvement, Elam probably will be moved in a trade before the 53-man roster is set.
