3.) Terrel Bernard - Linebacker

As training camp has progressed, the Bills competition for who will replace the footsteps of Tremaine Edmunds continues on. While there was uncertainty, there seems to be more clarity leading up to the season.

According to Jon Scott, Bills’ linebacker coach Bobby Babich talked about how the linebacker competition is more so focused on Tyrel Dodson and Terrel Bernard. It looks like the rest of training camp and going into preseason will determine that one of these players will be next to Matt Milano on the defense in week one at MetLife.

One reason why Bernard is on this list rather than Dodson is because of the type of linebacker Bernard is. Sean McDermott likes versatility when it comes to the linebackers, meaning someone who can cover sideline-to-sideline and play in pass coverage.

Bernard seems to be a better fit for the kind of defensive scheme that the Bills have ran since McDermott’s arrival in Buffalo. Dodson is more of a run stopper in which he can rotate in on third-and-short situations, and then Bernard can take care of first and second downs.
