Which Buffalo Bills players need to step up in 2023 to help Josh Allen?

The term “next man up” is frequently used in sports, but it more so relates to injuries that have occurred to starters. In this case, this is the focus of Buffalo Bills players who are not Josh Allen who need to step up this season in order for the Bills to succeed.

The Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott era in Buffalo has been one of the most successful reigns in the NFL, but they still have yet to even reach the Super Bowl. Not only do they have yet to get past the conference championship game, but now they have extra bumps to overcome in the AFC. In the last three postseasons, the Bills have found themselves on the losing end against the Kansas City Chiefs twice, and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Some would argue decision-making is the issue, maybe coaching discipline, or even talent overall. Either way, the common denominator is that there is an issue as to why the Bills cannot get over the mountain.

Compared to the offseasons from 2020-2022, this past offseason for the Bills was not filled with as much hope heading into 2023. Rather than making a big trade acquisition or a big-name free agent signing, the Bills were more reserved with how they approached the offseason. In other words, there were no big splashes made.

One thing for sure is that as long as Josh Allen is under center, the Bills will always be in the super bowl conversation. Although, Allen cannot do it all by himself. Here are five players who need to step up this season for the Bills.
