5 Buffalo Bills players on defense who need to impress at minicamp
By Brandon Ray
1.) Defensive end - A.J. Epenesa
As a former second round pick, Epenesa has not been the edge rusher that Bills fans had hoped for. In three seasons, he has not even reached 10 sacks in his career (only 9 total, 6.5 in 2022). Along with the low sack rate, he has only racked up 44 tackles.
There have also been times when he was not chosen to dress for a game. No injuries, but the fact that he was a healthy scratch at times is a bit concerning. His presence was shown this past season as he had a career high 6.5 sacks, but the fact that it took three years to reach that does not help him.
When Von Miller tore his ACL last Thanksgiving, there was a chance that Epenesa would potentially see more playing time at the beginning of this upcoming season. With Leonard Floyd signing with the Bills, Epenesa could now be the biggest player in trouble of being cut come training camp.
Epenesa will have to stand out in minicamp to be noticed and have a realistic shot at making the final roster. This battle could come down between him and Boogie Basham for the last edge rusher spot on the team.
