5 Buffalo Bills who lost the game in Week 5 against Jaguars
Kaiir Elam
Offseason expectations for Kaiir Elam were very high as it was an open competition for the starting cornerback spot opposite Tre'Davious White. However, the former first round pick would struggle and was passed by Christian Benford and Dane Jackson on the depth chart.
Being as far down as he was, the former first round pick was inactive for the first four weeks of the season. In Week 5, he not only had a chance to be active due to the injury suffered by Tre'Davious White but would start as Christian Benford would also be inactive.
This was a great opportunity for Elam to make a case for why he should be more involved moving forward. Unfortunately, that did not play out as he would hope as Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk combined for 200 receiving yards on 13 receptions.
While Elam was not in coverage on all of those plays, it was clear that Trevor Lawrence looked his way often when he was in coverage. The coaching staff noticed Elam was struggling and he would be benched for undrafted free agent Ja'Marcus Ingram late in the game.
It remains to be seen where the Buffalo Bills go from here with Kaiir Elam but it would not be surprising if Ja'Marcus Ingram is active on gameday with Elam returning to being a healthy scratch.
