3.) Kaiir Elam struggles at the second cornerback position
In the ongoing competition for the cornerback spot opposite of Tre’Davious White, young players like Kaiir Elam, Christian Benford, and Dane Jackson are battling it out for that final secondary position. All three defenders are expected to play throughout the preseason and the first game against the Colts is the first true test.
Elam was a rookie last season who had ups and downs as a first-round pick. Going into his second season with the Bills, Elam will more than likely face quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and rookie Anthony Richardson, who has been compared to Josh Allen as a big quarterback with raw talent that will need development.
While expectations are high for Elam this season, no one knows what to expect from him but there could be struggles along the way which includes this first game against the Colts.
In the first preseason game, Elam will have more downs than ups which could hurt him in the competition with Benford and Jackson. Even though Elam has been coached to play at the line of scrimmage and defend right away right off the snap, practice is different as compared to live games.
