Buffalo Bills defense dealing with injury bug

Most notably, the Bills lost former all-pro cornerback Tre'Davious White to an Achilles injury that will effectively end his season. The 2017 first-round pick from Lousiana State University had finally recovered from a torn ACL before the injury occurred in the third quarter of Buffalo's week four matchup against Miami.

But White isn't the only player on defense that is banged up amidst the Bills trip to London.

Despite eventually returning to the game, second-year breakout cornerback Christian Benford injured his shoulder against the Dolphins — an ailment that kept him out of a couple of defensive series in the second half and has made him a limited participant at practice throughout the week.

After missing last week's game with a knee injury, Bills safety Jordan Poyer was also a limited participant at practice this week. The former first-team all-pro safety missed a handful of games last season and in his seventh year with the Bills, he's become an important stalwart in the team's defensive backfield.

On the defensive front, third-year defensive end Greg Rousseau is dealing with a foot injury that has kept him off the field entirely, since Sunday's win against the Dolphins. Rousseau's three sacks are tied for second on the team with defensive tackle Ed Oliver.

While the Bills are optimistic that future hall-of-fame pass rusher Von Miller will make his anticipated return from an ACL injury that has kept him out of the lineup since last season, their rotational defensive line depth and 2022 first-round cornerback — and 2023 routine healthy scratch — Kaiir Elam will be tested against a dynamic Jaguars passing attack.
