Do the Buffalo Bills move Christian Benford to safety?

The Buffalo Bills appear to have a good problem in that they have such great depth that some good players might not see the field much this season. This could give the coaching staff an opportunity to look past this season and begin preparations for 2024 where they may not have Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer as their starting safeties.

The Bills were able to re-sign Jordan Poyer this season to a two-year deal but Hyde is entering the final season of his contract with the Bills. They also signed free agent Taylor Rapp and hopefully will be getting Damar Hamlin back.

However, if Hyde is unlikely to be in the team's plans for 2024 the Bills could give a player like Christian Benford a chance to make the switch to safety as early as this summer. At the NFL Scouting Combine back in February, general manager Brandon Beane seemed to hint at the possibility of Benford moving to that position.

The Bills were able to address the position for this season so it isn't as much of a pressing need but 2024 has some big question marks. If Kaiir Elam runs away in the training camp battle, or Benford doesn't look to be a factor, it would not be surprising to see him get snaps at safety during the preseason games.
