Tim Settle

Contract: 2 years, $9 million

The Buffalo Bills almost completely changed the defensive tackle position by signing DaQuan Jones, Jordan Phillips and Tim Settle. While Jones was the starter, it seemed like the success hinged on the performance of Tim Settle.

He was a rotational player with Washington to begin his career and stuck behind two first round picks. The expectation was that with an expanded role, Settle could have a breakout year in Buffalo.

Unfortunately, that never came to fruition, and Settle was considered a cut candidate this offseason before reworking his contract.

Among the four free agents on this list, there is a clear improvement at the position at a similar or lesser contract. However, one move that would have made sense was to bring back Harrison Phillips, who started to play very well down the stretch of the 2021 season.

He agreed to a three-year deal worth $19 million with the Minnesota Vikings which was a longer deal and a higher average salary but he would have been more productive than Settle.
