Create cap space for the Buffalo Bills
The obvious reason for a move like this would be to create cap space for this offseason. Entering this offseason, the Bills are currently projected to be almost $52 million over the salary cap and will need to be under that before the start of the new league year in mid-March.
This is one of the reasons the Bills are going to have to make some tough decisions because it means likely releasing good players. Tre'Davious White has the fifth highest cap hit for 2024 at over $16 million and is under contract for the next two seasons.
However, if the Bills were to release him this offseason it would result in dead cap for 2024 of $10.3 million but also save them slightly more than $6 million. The Bills won't be able to solve their salary cap with one move but this would get them closer.
