3 Buffalo Bills to watch on defense against New York Jets in Week 1

The best way to help out your linebackers and cornerbacks is great play in the trenches. The Bills’ defensive line play is going to be crucial, especially rushing the passer. When Von Miller went down last year, the Bills' pass rush and defense as a whole, took a massive hit. With Miller out for at least four games, they need someone to step up and be their lead pass rusher.
All signs point to third-year man, Greg Roussuea being that guy. He was on a tear to start the season last year before injuries slowed him down. He improved going into his second year and the team is expecting another big step from him this year. In 13 games last year, “Groot,” had eight sacks, 10 tackles for loss, four batted passes, 14 quarterback hits, 18 pressures, and a forced fumble. He doubled his sack numbers and is primed for a breakout year, where many are expecting double-digit sacks.
An improved interior of the Bills defensive line and improvement of the line overall as a whole, will help Rousseau. On Monday night, the Bills will need to get after Rodger’s early and often. With Mehki Becton’s status up in the air, and Duane Brown battling through injuries and just returning, the Bills can exploit the Jet’s pass protection on the edge.
The importance of the pass rush is what makes Roussuea a key player to watch in week one. If he can bring the pressure, the Bills' chances of winning improve tremendously.
