Taron Johnson

Taron Johnson is the team's nickel cornerback and for other defenses that usually means a player who might not be on the field often in a subpackage like that. However, the Bills use the nickel formation frequently and Johnson is essentially a starter for this team.

He has developed into one of the top nickel corners in the NFL and was named second-team All-Pro this past season. For his career, Johnson has 450 total tackles, four interceptions, 39 passes defended and seven forced fumbles. It would also be important to note the 101-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the 2020 NFL playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens.

Taron Johnson signed a contract extension during the 2021 season that was three years and worth $24 million. This season Johnson is entering the final year of that contract and has a cap hit over $12.4 million.

However, Johnson is only 27 years old and still has plenty of good football ahead of him. When considering all the changes in the secondary, and the veteran leadership lost on that side of the ball, it makes alot of sense for the Buffalo Bills to make sure he doesn't leave any time soon and remains a key part of the defense.
