2 Buffalo Bills extension candidates in 2024
Offensive tackle Spencer Brown
Spencer Brown has had an up-and-down career thus far, filled with injuries and the team signing experienced veterans behind him. Now at 26 years old, the former third-round pick is in a make-or-break year. Buffalo signed La’el Collins as injury insurance, but Collins also has plenty of starting experience should the Bills need him.
With competition behind him and recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, Brown is in a tough position. When he’s healthy, he looks like a franchise right tackle. However, it seems like an injury ails him every summer into the regular season. He’s a tough player, which is why he’s only missed eight games in his career, but he can’t last that long playing the way he is.
The Bills are banking on him being healthy for the long haul. Signing him to a team-friendly extension now protects them, and gives Brown a nice bonus for blocking Josh Allen’s right side. A short two-year extension allows both sides to get what they want, and if you’re the Bills, see if Brown can remain healthy before committing a large amount of money to him. Brown played in all 17 games last year, allowing five sacks in 1,160 snaps played, according to PFF.
