Quite frankly, it’s a little sad when people try to argue that Josh Allen shouldn’t have won the MVP award for the 2024 season. People will say that Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson deserved it more because he was supposedly “the better quarterback” and had “better” stats. Last time I checked, the award stands for most valuable player and while Jackson is valuable to the Ravens, Allen is more valuable to the Buffalo Bills.

Allen was breaking franchise records and creating NFL history while leading the Bills to their 5th consecutive AFC East title and taking the Bills to the AFC championship game. Yes, I know that the Bills fell short once again but it certainly wasn’t because of Allen. He doesn’t play defense, and Buffalo’s defense fell apart (again) in the playoffs.

Latest PFF rankings gives a solid reason why Josh Allen has great chance at winning MVP again

One of the reasons why Allen was able to dominate last season and will do it again is because of the protection he has in the trenches with his offensive line. From left to right, the unit of Dion Dawkins, David Edwards, Connor McGovern, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Spencer Brown kept Allen upright throughout the season and for that, Allen was only sacked 14 times which is a career-low for him.

Zoltan Bradley from Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked the offensive line units for each team going into the 2025 season and the Bills’ unit came in at No. 3 just behind the Broncos and Eagles. Here’s what Bradley said about Buffalo’s offensive line:

"Buffalo's offensive line allowed 160 pressures in 2024, including a league-low six sacks, on 673 pass plays, leading to a sixth-ranked 87.7 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating."

Buffalo has become a pass-happy offense with Josh Allen behind center and because the offensive line stayed healthy, it helped Allen take control of the offense rather than having to scramble out of the pocket. The Bills are returning all five starters from last season and there is more depth behind them as well. While Allen has bigger goals for the Bills, winning back-to-back MVPs is very possible if his protection can pick up where they left off last season.
