It’s been quite the day in the NFL with a bunch of news coming out about players being released. In addition, we have an official trade request from the Pacific Northwest. Seattle Seahawks’ star wideout DK Metcalf has officially requested a trade from the Seahawks and according to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Seattle is “exploring options”.
There has been a lot of chatter about Metcalf and his future with the Seahawks. Now he might be on his way out to another team. This news came after the Seahawks released long-time fan favorite Tyler Lockett. Seattle’s wide receiver core could look a lot different in 2025.
Metcalf is looking to go to a contender and with him being in the NFC, it would make sense for the Seahawks to send him to an AFC contender. That’s where the Buffalo Bills could come into play and be a contender to bring the 27-year old star wideout to Western New York.
However, an NFL expert gives the perfect explanation as to why the Bills, should they be interested in trading for Metcalf, need to be very careful of making this move.
Bills need to think about a major risk of trading for DK Metcalf
Pete Prisco from CBS Sports brought up a fantastic point on the risk of a team trading for Metcalf. Since Metcalf is in the final year of his deal, a team that trades for him will more than likely make him of the highest-paid receivers
If you trade for Metcalf, it means you are willing to make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league since he’s in final year of deal. Trade and pays are always risky. Not usually worth it in my book.

Yes, the Bills have to bring in wide receiver help but there are options in both free agency and in the draft. While Metcalf would be a huge difference maker in Buffalo’s offense, last season proved that the Bills do not need a true number-one receiver.
Metcalf has been very impressive in six years, having no less than 900 receiving yards in a season. He averages 8 touchdowns per season and he has been relatively healthy throughout his career.
At the same time, the main priority for the Bills should be loading up on defensive talent. In addition, getting a player like Myles Garrett is more impactful as it helps boost the biggest weakness that Buffalo has which is creating a consistent pass rush.
The Bills can utilize different avenues at wide receiver to build up their core. Not to mention, Buffalo has to find a way to clear up some cap space.
