The Buffalo Bills are coming into Round 1 of the NFL Draft needing help on defense, both in the trenches and the secondary. While they have some stability for now, they need help for the future. If they can leave the first round with a stud cornerback who can be a CB2 of the future or even a defensive tackle to take over for DaQuan Jones after 2025, it will be a great start for Brandon Beane.
With having the No. 30 pick going into tonight, the Bills will be watching some of the premier talent going off the board early on. They will be waiting for a little bit before they can start to think about what move they will make, whether it’s at No. 30, sooner, or even later.
We have seen Beane do it all as the general manager. He’s stayed at the Bills’ draft pick, he’s traded up, and traded down (as well as traded out of the first round). Last year, the Bills traded back twice and out of the first round before selecting wide receiver Keon Coleman in the second round.
This draft class is very interesting. There is no true star player, but there is so much talent that teams will have plenty of options to choose from. This is a strong running back and defensive tackle class for sure, so the Bills should find a way to acquire some of that talent at some point this weekend.
Buffalo’s first round pick should be someone who can start from the first day. Your first three-round draft picks should be your almost guaranteed-to-start prospects. Sometimes the Bills have hit on those picks, and sometimes they have missed.
The Bills have ten draft picks to work with so there could easily be a trade involving the Bills to move up, whether it’s in the first round or on day three. Well, we may have just seen a potential scenario involving the Bills a trade-up for them if a certain prospect falls down the board.
NFL analyst Ryan Fowler reported some final notes heading into the draft and Fowler listed the teams that could be looking to trade back (Minnesota, Carolina, New Orleans and Washington) and then Fowler noted that not only would “Tennessee trade back up in R1 for a WR”, but that the Bills are a team to watch if cornerback Jahdae Barron slips.
Bills fans should be keeping an eye on CB Jahdae Barron
Coming out of Texas, Barron has established himself as a physical defensive back who can make life difficult for a receiver that he goes up against. He recorded five interceptions last season and broke up 11 pass attempts. Not to mention, he can be utilized greatly in run-support in the backfield.
As the draft starts to get into the 20s, if Barron is still available, the Bills could very much be on trade-up watch as there are teams who have been rumored to look to trade down. Keep an eye out on Barron, because he could very well be coming to Buffalo.
