It’s amazing how many current free agents that are still available that were on the Buffalo Bills in 2025. Players like Matt Milano, Joey Bosa, Tre’Davious White, Shaq Thompson, and Curtis Samuel all remain unsigned at this point. Despite the Bills being a playoff team and having 12 wins, it makes you wonder what the rest of the league thinks about what the Bills were under Sean McDermott.

Other players like David Edwards, Taron Johnson and Cam Lewis are on new teams. Edwards landed a huge four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, Johnson was traded by the Bills to the Las Vegas Raiders, and Lewis signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Other than that, there isn't a ton of movement amongst the Bills’ free agency class...until now.

Bills see edge rusher depth land with NFC contender (and it's an underrated addition)

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Bills edge rusher A.J. Epenesa has signed a deal to join the Philadelphia Eagles and join the NFC East. After Epenesa was originally going to sign with the Browns before a failed physical, he now lands in a great situation on a championship team.

Epenesa leaves Buffalo after six seasons, mainly as a rotational edge rusher who stepped up his game after his first two seasons. He will head to the Eagles with 24 career sacks and he also has a great act to force fumbles and be near them at the right time to recover them.

All that Epenesa knows is the defense that was run in Buffalo, which was a 4-3 with a mixup into a 4-2-5. As part of the “bend don’t break” philosophy that the Bills had under McDermott, Epenesa now joins a defense that is way different. He will now be coached by Vic Fangio and be next to some of the great defenders on the line like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter.

This is a sneaky good signing for Philadelphia. Epenesa is an above-average rotational player who can get after the quarterback. He is not the greatest at defending the run, but he can surely chase down the quarterback if he beats the block.

It was highly unlikely that Epenesa would be back in Buffalo, especially with the chance in the defensive scheme. Landing in Philadelphia was the best spot for him.
