Trades have already been happening ahead of next week’s free agency period, but they can’t become officially official until next Wednesday. We have already seen three trades happen, and it would not surprise anyone if more were to be reported.
While the Buffalo Bills are not exactly in a great place to trade for financial reasons, you can never put anything past Brandon Beane.
A lot of fans are expecting the Bills to make some kind of splash at wide receiver, but the likelihood of the Bills landing one of the best in the game is highly unlikely. Buffalo doesn’t have enough resources and cap space to make that happen, especially if they want to remain in a championship window beyond the 2026 season.
Then again, it doesn’t mean they can’t get some kind of upgrade at the position and Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report put together a mock trade involving the Bills that fans would not be surprised at.
Bills mock trade has them making immediate upgrade to WR room
In Davenport’s mock trade, the Bills traded WR Keon Coleman and a 2026 5th-round pick for WR Michael Pittman Jr. and a 2026 6th-round pick.
"Pittman hasn't ben as productive the past two seasons as he was earlier in his career, but the seventh-year veteran has a pair of 1,000-yard seasons on his NFL resume. Even if he's not the true "alpha" wideout the Buffalo Bills so badly need, he'd be a sizable upgrade to the team's passing-game weapons. He'd also likely be amenable to an extension that would drop his cap hit in 2026." said Davenport.
Coleman was a huge topic at the Bills’ press conference after Sean McDermott was fired, and Terry Pegula created a mess of the topic by trying to say that it was the coaching staff, not Beane, that pushed for Coleman in the 2024 draft.
If the Bills were going to try and trade Coleman, now is the time. He has been productive on the field, and there have been maturity issues with him that led to him being a healthy scratch various times last season.
Indianapolis has to find a way to keep Daniel Jones, seeing as how they have already given Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade. In addition, seeing them letting Alec Pierce walk in free agency is hard to imagine. The Colts could get some financial relief by moving on from Pittman, specifically saving $24 million, just like Davenport said.
Then the Bills get an upgrade at wideout while moving on from Coleman who has not been productive outside of a handful of games the last two seasons. This trade makes total sense and fans wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen.
