Now that the NFL coaching carousel is slowing down, the Buffalo Bills can start to pinpoint which players they’d like to see come to play under new head coach Joe Brady. One player high on Bills Mafia’s wishlist is disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
Crosby is a scheme-versatile player, so there’s no real concern about him fitting in new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard’s system. Bills fans have kept an eye on Crosby as a potential trade target since he and the team began having a fallout late in the season.
On Wednesday, Bills Mafia got the news they had been waiting for when NFL Insider Jay Glazer said he believes Crosby’s time in Las Vegas is “done.” Glazer also said that Crosby could very well be traded before the NFL Draft and that he sees many potential landing spots around the league, though the highest bidder could pay more for Crosby than Green Bay could for Mike Parsons.
While that last bit stings, the good news for the Bills stopped after Glazer made it clear Crosby is on the trading block. That’s because another NFL Insider relayed information that could send Crosby to the Bills’ most competitive AFC East rival.
Bills' trade target Maxx Crosby reportedly has eyes set on rival Patriots
NFL Insider Diana Russini joined the Zolak & Bertrand radio show from Boston’s 98.5 The Sports Hub, where she suggested the New England Patriots are a team to watch out for in the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes.
“Maxx Crosby doesn’t seem too happy in Las Vegas. Does he finally ask for [a trade] formally and ask out? I can tell you, I know he wants to play for Mike Vrabel. He’s told me before,” she said.

Glazer mentioned that Crosby’s exit from Las Vegas is out of the 7-year veteran’s desire to leave the franchise. He also said some 20 teams contacted him to gauge Crosby’s true availability. Pair that with Russini’s comment credited back to the pass rusher himself, the Bills may be staring down a nightmare scenario where Crosby is lined up in Vrabel’s defense with crosshairs locked on Josh Allen.

With Crosby’s superstar status, it stands to reason that he should have some say in where he is traded. So if his interest in playing for Vrabel is as great as Russini is selling it, the Patriots may already be the early front-runner to land Crosby.
Of course, the Mafia wants to see Beane pursue Crosby to improve his own roster, but at this point, they might just settle for driving the price up on New England’s front office so they can’t survive the trade afterward.
As badly as fans want to see Crosby in a Bills uniform, certainly it’d be better for him to stay out of the AFC East altogether if not in Buffalo. His 69.5 career sacks will continue to stack no matter where he lands, and no one in Western New York wants to see him add to that total two-three times per year at Josh Allen’s expense.
