This past offseason, the Buffalo Bills had the chance to sign a player that they were rumored to have tried trading for from the Green Bay Packers; cornerback Jaire Alexander. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz had reported that the Bills and Packers “held trade talks this offseason centered around CB Jaire Alexander” but the two teams couldn’t come to an agreement. Therefore, the Packers ultimately released Alexander.
Since the Bills had decided to sign Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson in free agency, then draft three cornerback rookies, it was unlikely that the Bills were going to make a run for Alexander as a free agent. However, the Bills may see Alexander very soon as he opted to sign with the Baltimore Ravens, who the Bills will face in Week 1.
The key word is “maybe” as a recent update about Alexander may hurt the Ravens’ chances of having him on the field against the Bills. If that is the case, then the Bills were smart to not pursue Alexander in the free agent market.
Bills may have been very smart to avoid signing Jaire Alexander
According to Jason B. Hirschhorn, Alexander has been missing practice for the Ravens due to “something he’s been dealing with for years” according to Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, per Hirschhorn.
Hirschhorn then said that “Alexander had his knee drained in July” and that last season, Alexander had “missed 10 games in 2024 with a knee injury that eventually required surgery.” Here’s the post from Hirschhorn:
Former Packers CB Jaire Alexander continues to miss practice with "something he's been dealing with for a few years," according to Ravens HC John Harbaugh.

Alexander had his knee drained in July. He missed 10 games in 2024 with a knee injury that eventually required surgery.
In his last two seasons, Alexander has played in just 14 total games and has not been the Pro Bowl player he was back in 2022. He’s still in his prime, but injuries have caught up with him in recent memory and now he’s looking to prove that he can still be a caliber starting cornerback.
However, with Alexander dealing with this kind of injury as the season is rapidly approaching, it’s not a good look for the Ravens or for Alexander. From the Bills’ perspective, it looks like avoiding giving Alexander a contract, or not getting a trade deal done earlier this offseason was a smart move by them.
