When we watch football, fans tend to pay attention the most to where the ball is going. The quarterback is supposed to be the star of the show. Then he has his weapons on the outside and in the backfield. They tend to have great games and get all of the glory.
Heck, we even see players on defense that get noticed whenever they get an interception, produce a hard-hitting tackle, or sack the quarterback. There is no doubt that a player should get their credit when it’s deserved.
One unit on the field that doesn’t get talked about enough is the offensive line. They rarely get the credit that they deserve, and sometimes all that they get is criticism. Having a great offensive line is such an important factor to be a championship team. Look at what the Chargers did this past offseason. They went out, got protection for Justin Herbert and their offense looks a lot different for the better.
When it comes to the Buffalo Bills and their offensive line, they have had one of the best units that no one talks about. Don’t get me wrong, when you have lines like the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, there’s no doubt that they are amongst the top of the league. At the same time, the Bills deserve their credit and this unit could be the reason why the Bills go all the way in the postseason.
Buffalo Bills have the best offensive line heading into playoffs
The Bills’ offensive line was so good this year, that they only allowed 14 sacks this season, which was the fewest by any team since 2009, per the Buffalo Bills PR. Not only did they dominate this season, but this is the second consecutive season have allowed the fewest sacks (24 in 2023).
Protecting Josh Allen has always been the key to allowing the Bills offense to thrive. On average, Allen has been sacked 29 times per season. The fact that his protectors kept him protected and allowed 14 sacks is unbelievable.
Their first major test in the playoffs will come this Sunday when they take on the Denver Broncos, whose defense leads the NFL in sacks with 63, with the Ravens being the next closest at 54 sacks.
If Buffalo’s offensive line can keep Allen clean in the pocket and take away one of Denver’s greatest strengths, the Bills have a shot to make Bo Nix and the Broncos offense play from behind all game long.
