The Buffalo Bills know the importance of this season, and there may be no one on the roster who gets that more than receiver Keon Coleman. This is the most important campaign of his career, but now he's dealing with an injury.

Coleman was seen in a walking boot during Tuesday's practice and didn't participate. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported that Coleman is with a sprained foot/toe that he suffered in the preseason opener.

For a player in Coleman who could use every snap he can get during training camp, this is a hiccup.

Keon Coleman's latest setback hits during the most important Bills camp

Coleman has been solid this summer and seems to have earned the starting receiver job across from DJ Moore. Khalil Shakir is in the slot, but for Coleman, being ahead of Josh Palmer on the depth chart is huge.

It hasn't been pinpointed when the injury took place, as Coleman played in the preseason contest vs. the Panthers. He reeled in a touchdown from Josh Allen, which is the kind of confidence boost that goes a long way. And it was also the first touchdown in Highmark Stadium.

Khalil Shakir is also dealing with an injury, so there were more reps/targets with Allen up for grabs. Those kinds of snaps in the summer shouldn't go under the radar. These countless sessions throughout the offseason are what can pay dividends when the season actually kicks off.

While Coleman has had some positive moments this summer, this isn't what he needed. Thankfully, the Bills don't seem concerned. Head coach Joe Brady doesn't have much concern, per Wolfe, but missing time is never the best outcome.

Buffalo opens the season on Sept. 13 against the Houston Texans. With a little over three weeks until that matchup kicks off, time is ticking. Coleman's tenure in Buffalo hasn't been smooth sailing. After some flashes as a rookie, Coleman couldn't carry that over to 2025.

Last season, he was a healthy scratch for several games, as he fell out of favor with the coaching staff. Brady has been adamant that Coleman will have a role and be productive for this offense. At the same time, any snaps and practices lost aren't beneficial for him.

Coleman is in a make-or-break year, so any injuries that slow him down can impact his long-term future in Buffalo. Fans should keep an eye on this injury and see when he'll be back on the field. The quicker he gets back, the better it'll be for him ahead of a critical 2026 season.
