One of the most overlooked, yet important dates of the NFL offseason is June 1st because that’s when moves tend to take place. Whether it’s releases, signings, or trades, there tends to be moves that happen because financials change based on a player’s contract. The biggest post-June 1st story there is the Philadelphia Eagles and how they could trade wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.

However, that is just the most known story that is likely to happen. There will be moves that are made and the Buffalo Bills could be involved as well. Their last notable signing that they made as a post-June 1st move was signing edge rusher Leonard Floyd back in 2023. It worked out well for them as Floyd had 10.5 sacks that year.

With all of the roster changes that the Bills have made this offseason, no one should be surprised if more are coming once June 1st passes, including a trade or two. One of those potential trade scenarios could involve wide receiver Joshua Palmer, who was listed as a trade candidate by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.

Seeing Palmer listed as a trade candidate? No surprise. The potential suitors listed? That’s a bit of a surprise.

Massive AFC rival listed as potential trade suitor for WR Joshua Palmer

Knox listed two teams as potential suitors for Palmer; the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders. The fact that the Chiefs, who have been Buffalo’s biggest nightmare in the playoffs, were listed is extremely laughable.

"Since the start of the offseason, Buffalo has signed Trent Sherfield, traded for D.J. Moore, and drafted Skyler Bell. That alone might not be enough to justify pulling the plug on Palmer, but his contract plays a part. Palmer is set to carry a cap hit of $11.8 million this season. The Bills can save $5.4 million by trading him now and $10.2 million by trading him after June 1." said Knox.

Financially, it would make sense for the Bills to trade Palmer if they feel comfortable with the other options they have at the position. Last season, Palmer was hit with the injury bug, limiting him to just 303 yards and he failed to get into the endzone.

With the additions of D.J. Moore and Skyler Bell, the Bills’ notable receivers include them two, Palmer, Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mecole Hardman Jr., and Trent Sherfield. I’m not saying that Palmer is the least talented of the group, but he could very well be in a little bit of roster trouble if the Bills have a vision that doesn’t include him.

At the same time, to have the Chiefs listed as an ideal spot doesn’t make sense. Buffalo cannot give their talent to a team that has found numerous ways to make life miserable for them. Even though Palmer struggled in his first year with Buffalo because of injuries, that doesn’t mean that the Bills should be looking to trade him to the one team in the conference that they can’t get past.

Now of course, the Chiefs are still in need of wide receiver help and if they were willing to pay a good price for Palmer, then maybe it’s a different conversation. However, it doesn’t make sense for the Bills to help the Chiefs when they already helped them land Xavier Worthy during the 2024 NFL Draft.
