After the 2020-2021 season, the Buffalo Bills were officially true Super Bowl contenders no matter what anyone says. They had just come off their first AFC championship game appearance for the first time since 1993-1994 and they finally had what they lacked for nearly two decades, a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen.

However, the Bills were still a young team in terms of playoff experience and they needed to make some upgrades to the roster for a championship run the following year. Going into the 2021 NFL Draft, Brandon Beane needed to upgrade the pass rush for the defense. He spent Buffalo’s first two picks on pass rushers Greg Rousseau and Boogie Basham. Rousseau has been solid for the Bills, while Basham was traded away to the Giants prior to the 2023 season.

Another player from that Bills draft class was offensive lineman Spencer Brown, who was coming out of Northern Iowa and the Bills were hoping that he could help solidify the outside of the offensive line with Dion Dawkins. At 6-foot-8, Brown has big size to protect Allen and help open up running lanes. While his career did get off to a bit of a slower start, the last two years have been nearly perfect for Brown.

Spencer Brown overlooked in recent NFL Draft list

Damian Parson from Bleacher Report recently listed “The Biggest Steals” from the 2021 NFL Draft and the players that made the list were Deommodore Lenoir (CB, 49ers), Paulson Adebo (CB, Saints - now with the Giants), Chuba Hubbard (RB, Panthers), Camryn Bynum (S, Vikings), Milton Williams (DL, Eagles - now with the Patriots), Trey Smith (OL, Chiefs), Nico Collins (WR, Texans), and Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR, Lions).

Being drafted in the third round, Brown is an absolute steal for the Bills. He has helped solidify the Bills’ offensive line and was already a fantastic run-blocker coming out of college. Over the last two years working with Aaron Kromer, Brown has significantly improved his pass-blocking skills and doesn’t let a lot of defenders get past him.

With Buffalo getting him in the third round, they managed to take care of the tackle position on the offensive line for the foreseeable future which is going to only help Allen keep getting better as time goes on. Not to mention, Buffalo’s offensive line was one of the best last season and Brown played a big role in it.
