The Buffalo Bills have certainly had themselves a week. They lost to the Denver Broncos this past Saturday, which kicked them out of the playoffs…again…but the offseason for them started off in a way that a lot of people didn’t expect; firing Sean McDermott on Monday morning.
Instead of focusing on what went wrong this season and figuring out what needs to be corrected, the Bills are now in search of a new head coach. At the same time, they still have to be focusing on the different prospects that will be coming into this year’s NFL draft.
No matter who the head coach is for the Bills, the team has to get a true WR1. The question is whether they want a proven wideout that is in the league, or go and get a rookie wideout with the hope that he can become Josh Allen’s No. 1 wideout.
If Buffalo is not able to secure themselves a veteran wideout that has had success in the league, then they need to draft a wide receiver in the first round of this year’s draft. The Bills currently own the 26th overall pick and they could land themselves a wideout whether it’s at that spot or maybe they trade up.
Bills get promising WR1 for Josh Allen in 2026 mock draft
Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone put together a recent 2026 mock draft and has the Bills selecting USC wide receiver Makai Lemon:
"It feels like Keon Coleman's time in Buffalo is done. The Josh Palmer signing was a failure. The Bills need to reset the WR position and Makai Lemon would be an absolutely perfect fit here."Sayre Bedinger, NFL Spin Zone
Based on how Keon Coleman was talked about in Buffalo’s press conference on Wednesday, it sure does sound like a possibility that Coleman could be done in Buffalo. Even if the Bills decide to keep him and see if he can grow as a player, Buffalo still must draft a better option than him.
Coming out of USC, Lemon is coming off a huge year for the Trojans with recording 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns. He went for over 125+ yards in five games, with four of them over 150 yards. He was also a go-to guy in the offense, getting 10+ receptions in three games.
Lemon has a ton of great potential to not just be a great receiver, but also be an immediate contributor in this league. If he gets the opportunity to start his career with Buffalo catching passes from Josh Allen, he should be able to be the immediate contributor that Keon Coleman was not.
