The Buffalo Bills are in a desperate need for a game wrecking edge rusher who can force mistakes by quarterbacks. Even though Greg Rousseau has a lot of promise, and the Bills believe in him with his contract extension this past offseason, he hasn’t shown to be someone who can take over a game.
Von Miller was supposed to be that player when the Bills signed him to a massive contract in 2022. Instead, all that fans got was seeing Miller tear his ACL halfway through the 2022 season and never being the same player he once was. After Buffalo released Miller this offseason, they needed a veteran presence and they somehow swooped in and signed Joey Bosa, who was released by the Chargers after being there for nearly a decade.
Buffalo signed Bosa to a one-year deal worth $12.6 million. The Bills don’t have a long-term commitment to him if things don’t work out. On the other hand, Bosa being on a contract year could boost his production as he hopes to cash in going into 2026.
Joey Bosa viewed as a potential bust for 2025
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently predicted each NFL team’s biggest bust for the 2025 season and Bosa was picked for the Bills. Here’s a bit on what Knox said about Bosa being a potential bust for this coming season:
"Bosa had solid numbers with the Los Angeles Chargers last season (5 sacks, 19 QB pressures), but he's still an aging defender who has appeared in only 28 games over the past three years. Bosa may struggle to live up to his $12.6 million price point in 2025, and those expecting him to be the regular game-wrecker he was early in his career will likely be disappointed."Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report
The injury concern is real with Bosa. Unfortunately, you can’t talk about Bosa without mentioning how injured he has been over the course of his career. When he’s on the field, he’s an absolute game-changer. However, we now have to say “when he’s on the field” because he has not proven that he can stay healthy for a majority of the season.
The last time Bosa played an entire season was in 2019. It’s been six years since he played in every regular season game. Knox is completely right (unfortunately) about Bosa. Bills fans need to hope that he stays healthy and can be productive to help Buffalo get over the hump.
