It was March of last year when the news broke that the Buffalo Bills had agreed to a one-year deal worth $12.6 million to bring edge rusher Joey Bosa to Western New York. Bosa spent his entire career with the Chargers prior to joining the Bills, and he had established himself as one of the best edge rushers in the game.
In four of his first six seasons, Bosa recorded 10+ sacks, making him one of the best defenders in the game. However, injuries unfortuantely became part of his journey which kept him out of a lot of action. From 2022-2023, Bosa played in a total of 14 games.
After he was released by the Chargers, he opted to sign with the Bills even though there was a lot of speculation that he would team up with his younger brother, Nick Bosa, and join the San Francisco 49ers. Buffalo gave him a prove-it deal and didn’t have worry about the long-term commitment.
The biggest concern that fans had about this signing was whether or not Bosa would be healthy for a majority of the season. The good news is that Bosa managed to play in 15 games, only missing one true game due to injury. In addition, he led the NFL in forced fumbles (5) and helped provide pressure early on against quarterbacks.
It appears that the Bills and Bosa were one-and-done, but a lot of people had thought that Bosa would definitely get atleast one more good-sized contract. However, not only has that not happened, Adam Schefter spoke on his podcast about how “it is more likely than not that Joey Bosa has played his last NFL down.”
Joey Bosa may be done with NFL after bounce-back year with Bills in 2025
Schefter talked about how if Bosa wanted to play football, it would have happened by now, which is completely fair. Bosa is still in his prime and he just showed the NFL that he can still be one of the better edge rushers in the game.
At the same time, Bosa has dealt with a bunch of injuries in his career. He also did disappear a bit down the stretch for the Bills. With where he is at in his career, it is understandable as to why he hasn’t signed anywhere. Maybe he is done, maybe he isn’t. At the end of the day though, there’s no denying that Bosa can still play great football.
With all of the changes that the Bills went through on defense, a reunion doesn’t seem likely at all, especially since Buffalo already signed Bradley Chubb and drafted T.J. Parker. While you can never rule anything out, the writing is pretty much on the wall.
It will be interesting to see if Bosa does sign with someone, whether it’s before or during the season. But for now, the public image is that Bosa could very well be done in the NFL.
