The month of September is coming to an end and the Buffalo Bills are heading into October at 3-0. While the offense shined big time in the first two games, it was the defense that held their ground and was the main reason why the Bills won in their Nickel City jersey debut.
Buffalo's offense was going through Josh Allen in the first two games. However, we can't ignore what James Cook was able to do in Week 2 against the Lions, and then this past Sunday's game against the Chargers. Cook currently ranks 3rd in rushing with 346 yards and he also has 2 touchdowns. After only rushing for 57 yards in Week 1, Cook has rushed for 135+ yards in each of the last two games.
Ty Johnson also made his return in Week 3 after missing time with a hamstring injury going into the preseason. His return provided versatility in the backfield. While the rushing attack has been solid the last two weeks, running back Ray Davis has been part of that impact whatsoever.
Ray Davis has been very quiet through 3 games
Despite being active for all three games, Davis has just 1 carry for 3 yards that took place in Week 1 against the Texans. Ty Johnson wasn't even suited up for that game. We saw Frank Gore Jr. get the exact same stat line as Davis in that game.
Davis broke out for the Bills last season on special teams as he was named as a First-Team All-Pro kick returner. He had 943 kick return yards along with a touchdown. However, his offensive contribution has been very limited, but Joe Brady may have given a hint to fans that Davis' role could change going into Week 4.
Week 4 could feature Ray Davis' role growing for Bills
According to Matthew Bove of WKBW, Brady spoke with the media on Monday and said that "they need to get Ray Davis more involved because he's too good of a player to not have a bigger role."
Joe Brady unprompted said they need to get Ray Davis more involved because he’s too good of a player to not have a bigger role.

The Bills are going into Week 4 against the New England Patriots, which is their first divisional battle of the season. The Patriots are giving up 108 yards per game on the ground through the first three weeks, so it would be wise to get Davis involved in that aspect.
In addition, while Greg Dortch is a primary kick returner himself, Davis was an All-Pro last season. It makes a ton of sense to keep him out on the unit and maybe get Dortch more involved in the offense.
I still think that Johnson is the more serviceable backup to Cook, just because of the versatility that he provides. At the same time, Brady is right. Not seeing Davis on the field has been weird, but maybe that will change this Sunday against the Patriots.
