The Buffalo Bills have not shied away from rushing the ball this year under Joe Brady. Led by star running back James Cook, the Bills are ranked 5th in the league in rushing, averaging 158 yards per game. The only teams that are higher than the Bills are the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Cook is leading the way with 532 yards and 5 touchdowns, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. He ranks no lower than 6th in these categories. For as dynamic as Cook is, he also has had a fumbling issue throughout his career.
With 4 fumbles already this year (having 15 in his career and losing 7 of them), Cook was given a warning by head coach Joe Brady this past week after two fumbles against the Rams (one that almost cost them the game in overtime. If he can't hang onto the ball, Cook may lose carries.
Luckily, Cook has the chance to change the narrative against the Las Vegas Raiders, which is a perfect matchup for him.
James Cook has perfect opportunity for career-like day in Week 6
While Buffalo's defense has been atrocious so far this season (especially against the pass), the Raiders aren't that much better. The Raiders are allowing 377 yards per game while the Bills are allowing 388 yards. The biggest difference is that while Buffalo is having a tough time defending the pass, the Raiders have the 4th-worst run-defense going into Week 6.
They are allowing opponents to rush for 140 yards per game. The only teams allowing more than then are the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. For anyone that is looking for Buffalo to come into this matchup against the Raiders with a focus on rushing the ball, you might be in for a big treat.
Predicting James Cook's Week 6 stats against Raiders
The last time the Bills and Raiders faced off against each was in the 2023 season, where the Bills won 38-10 and James Cook rushed for 123 yards off of 17 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
The best game that Cook has had as a member of the Bills was against the Carolina Panthers last season with 216 yards and 2 touchdowns, averaging over 11 yards per carry. For Sunday's matchup in Las Vegas, I'm predicting that Cook surpasses those numbers from a year ago. That's how confident I am in his ability to not just prove that he can secure the ball, but that he will be the driving force for the Bills.
