The Buffalo Bills got off to a rough start against the New England Patriots. Drake Maye and the Patriots offense would drive down the field to take an early 7-0 lead. The Bills would get the ball back but wouldn’t go far and ended up punting it right back to the Patriots.
On New England’s second offensive drive, they developed a 16-play drive and took 9:57 off the clock and Rhamondre Stevenson ran it in for a New England touchdown to go up 14-0. Buffalo’s defense has looked pathetic to start this game. However, they should be thankful that they have James Cook on their team who helped put the Bills on the scoreboard for the first time in this game.
On Buffalo’s next drive, down 14-0, the Bills only needed four plays to help set up a 46-yard rushing touchdown for James Cook who finally put the Bills on the board. Once he broke a tackle in the middle of the hole the offensive line created, he was gone for the score.
James Cook surpasses Bills Hall of Famer’s record on TD run
With that 46-yard touchdown run by Cook, that became his fourth one this season where he rushed for over 40 yards which is the most by any Bills running back in a season. Cook was tied for the team best with O.J. Simpson who had three of those types of runs in 1973, 1975, and 1976, per the Buffalo Bills PR X account.
That run should cement Cook to becoming a Pro Bowler, maybe even an All-Pro this year. He has been phenomenal and has really helped out this offense that has struggled to find a rushing attack for the longest time. He is well within reach of reaching 1,000+ on the ground and he still has two more games to go, along with this matchup.
However, Buffalo needs to wake up and somehow get themselves out of the hole that dug themselves into early on. Maybe Joe Brady needs to take some notes from the Patriots offense and establish the run to keep Drake Maye off the field.
