When the Miami Dolphins traded for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs, many though the acquisition of Hill may knock off the Buffalo Bills as AFC East champs. Miami traded multiple draft picks away in order to acquire Hill to pair with Tua Tagovailoa.
Hill was a star for the Dolphins in his first two years. He had back-to-back 1,700+ receiving yard seasons to go with 20 receiving touchdowns. However, Hill couldn’t help the Dolphins get over the playoff hump, as Miami was knocked out of the first round of the playoffs the last two years (against Buffalo and Kansas City).
The Dolphins finished 8-9, second in the AFC East. They saw themselves at 2-6, essentially out of any playoff hope. Then they went 6-3 down the stretch, but the early hole they dug themselves into was too great to get out of.
Part of the reason why the Dolphins haven’t always had the best success is because Tua has missed some time with injuries. That then limits Hill of what he can do for the Miami offense. This past season was Hill’s worst statistical season with the Dolphins, but he still managed to put up 939 yards and 6 touchdowns, which included Tua missing even more time.
Tyreek Hill may want out Miami
According to Joe Schad, after Miami’s 32-20 loss to the New York Jets, Hill told reporters that “he has to do what’s best for his career, whether it’s in Miami or elsewhere”.
The Dolphins missed out on the playoffs with their loss to the Jets, but would have already been eliminated due to the Denver Broncos beating the Kansas City Chiefs. However, Hill making these remarks early on could put Miami in a tough position. Without Hill, Tua would not be able to make the plays he has shown he can.
Now granted, the season literally just ended for the Dolphins so there is going to be a cool off period. However, if Hill still feels this way after the Super Bowl and going into free agency, the Dolphins may have to address that issue to avoid a media frenzy.
