For as great as the Buffalo Bills are, they still have plenty of room for improvement this upcoming offseason. In fact, they have a good amount of pending free agents that will need to decide whether to try and keep, or let walk and find their replacements.
We all know that wide receiver is going to be the biggest position that fans will keep an eye on. At the same time, this defense from the trenches to the backend of the defense could use all kinds of help. Whether it’s through free agency or the draft, there should be a bunch of new players on the defensive under new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard.
Before free agency, Brandon Beane will have to get the Bills under the salary cap and also build in room to bring in new players. One position that has been invested heavily is cornerback. Over the last couple of years, the Bills have brought in players like Kaiir Elam, Christian Benford, Maxwell Hairston, and Dorian Strong.
Benford broke out as a true lockdown corner for the Bills, and the hope is that Hairston can take the next step forward in his second season. However, adding veteran help is never a bad idea, and Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone listed a veteran corner that could help this Buffalo secondary.
Chiefs' CB Jaylen Watson listed as ideal fit for Bills ahead of free agency
"The Chiefs have excelled at finding and developing defensive back talent, as Watson is yet another example of that. Buffalo simply needs more stability on the backend of the defense and could also be a logical fit for a top free agent safety as well." said Scataglia.
As a former 7th-round pick back in 2022, Watson has established himself as an above-average cornerback that may have earned himself a decent-sized contract in free agency. Who knows if the Chiefs will ultimately bring him back but if they don’t, Watson would be an intriguing option for this secondary under Leonhard.
Watson is coming off his best season as a pro with 64 total tackles and 2 interceptions. In addition, he’s had six pass deflections in each of his seasons as a pro.
Plus, getting help in the secondary from the Chiefs would be a bit of a laughing point as well, since the Bills would get themselves quality veteran help while Kansas City would have to potentially play against Watson in the playoffs, if the Bills and Chiefs meet.
