Former Bills offensive coordinator in major trouble down the stretch in 2024
By Brandon Ray
Ever since Sean McDermott took over as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, there has been a great amount of continuity as much as possible. On the defense, there have only been two true defensive coordinators; Leslie Frazier and Bobby Babich.
As for the offense, it’s been a little bit of a revolving door but nothing terrible. At first, it was Rick Dennison who was one-and-done after 2017. Then the Bills struck gold by hiring Brian Daboll and paired him with Josh Allen who helped grow into a superstar quarterback. After a lot of success in Buffalo, Daboll took on his first head coaching gig with the New York Giants. Since then, the Bills have had Ken Dorsey and now they have an upgrade in Joe Brady who has been fantastic since taking over the duties in the middle of last season.
While the McDermott has had success with his coordinators, one of his prior ones could be on his way out of a head coaching job soon, according to Jordan Schultz.
Brian Daboll was hired by the Giants in 2022 and he has had a rough year and a half with them. After getting them to the playoffs in 2022-2023 and helping making Daniel Jones look like a not-so-bad quarterback, things have went downhill. Whether it was lack of talent, execution, or even dealing with injuries, Daboll has been on a hot seat and his days with the Giants may be limited.
Per Jordan Schultz, Daboll could be coaching for his job down the stretch this season while general manager Joe Schoen may be safe.
Brian Daboll and NY Giants may break up soon
Seeing Daboll on the hot seat all because of bad quarterback play is tough to watch. He played a major role in helping the development of Josh Allen and quite frankly, Allen’s development is what could have landed him the job with the Giants. The hope was that Daboll would be able to develop Daniel Jones and make the Giants look like a genius for selecting Jones 6th overall in 2019.
Instead, the Giants have benched Jones for the rest of the year and will now turn to Tommy DeVito as their starter. If DeVito can’t deliver for the Giants for the rest of the season, the Giants may end up be on the lookout for a new head coach moving forward.
