Coaching career
Jauron began his coaching career with the Bills back in 1985 as a defensive assistant. Jauron then went up to join the Green Bay Packers to become the defensive backs coach from 1986-1994. In 1995, Jauron left the Packers to become the defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars where he would be down in Duval County from 1995-1998.
Jauron then earned his first head coaching job with the Chicago Bears in 1999. He only had one winning season with the Bears in 2001, going 13-3 but the Bears would lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round.
After spending five seasons with the Bears, Jauron was hired by the Detroit Lions as their defensive coordinator. Then in 2006, Jauron was named as the Bills’ 14th head coach in franchise history. He replaced Mike Mularkey who only spent two seasons with the Bills. In Buffalo, Jauron worked with quarterbacks like J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills finished everywhere but first place within the AFC East under Jauron.
Jauron was the head coach for the Bills from 2006 until the middle of the 2009 season where he and the Bills parted ways in the middle of the season. In his tenure with the Bills, the Bills went 7-9 in three consecutive seasons and then started out 3-6 before Buffalo and Jauron parted ways. Jauron was replaced by Perry Fewell, who served as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2009 season before the Bills Chan Gailey as their next full-time head coach.
After his tenure in Buffalo, Jauron worked with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns and then his coaching career in the NFL came to an end after the 2012 season.
Jauron worked under notable coaches such as Tom Coughlin, Steve Mariucci, Andy Reid, and Pat Shurmur. He also hired notable coaches like Perry Fewell, Adam Gase, Nathaniel Hackett, and Todd Haley throughout his career.
We are keeping Jauron's friends, family and loved ones in our thoughts during this tough time.
