The Buffalo Bills made headlines earlier today with Brandon Beane locking down the future once again with the extension of cornerback Christian Benford. It was reported by Adam Schefter that the Bills and Benford agreed on a four-year, $76 million extension that keeps Benford in Buffalo for the next five seasons.

With Buffalo extending Benford, they have their CB1 of the future and now they just need to find someone who can play opposite of him. Brandon Beane did a fantastic job with this extension because of the fact that it’s only $19 million per year, which is great money for a lockdown corner.

In three years with the Bills, Benford has established himself as the best corner for Buffalo and he played like an All-Pro in 2024. He even received a vote for the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year award which proves that his play was beyond impressive.

As a former 6th-round draft pick out of Villanova, Benford has defined all the odds and has become an important player for the Bills defense. Former Buffalo Bills fan-favorite offensive lineman Eric Wood praised the extension of Benford and noted that if the Bills had waited, it could have cost the Bills more to keep Benford around.

Christian Benford took a team-friendly deal with Bills

When you compare Benford’s deal to other cornerbacks in the NFL, it’s not even a close comparison. The Bills got a steal with Benford’s extension. With only paying $19 million per year, Benford’s deal looks cheap compared to players like Texans’ Derek Stingley Jr. ($30 million per year), Panthers’ Jaycee Horn ($25 million per year), and even Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs ($19.4 million per year).

The Bills under Brandon Beane have always been proactive at getting ahead of the curve when it comes to extensions. They have done it this offseason with Khalil Shakir, Terrel Bernard, Greg Rousseau, and even Josh Allen who is still not the highest paid quarterback per year.

Beane continues to show that he believes in the guys he drafted and they are being compensated very well. However, he also knows how to make sure to keep the cap room under control as much as possible. It’s not a surprise at this point to see Beane work his magic once again with Benford.
