The change from Sean McDermott to Joe Brady meant there were changes coming to the coaching staff and roster for the Buffalo Bills. For nearly a decade, fans got a sense of what kind of team and players that McDermott wanted in the building. Fans liked some, and they also didn’t care for others.

At the end of the day, the McDermott era brought in some solid players that helped the Bills elevate themselves into a championship contender. One of those players was cornerback Taron Johnson, who at one point in his career was the best nickel corner in the game. He was a perfect fit for McDermott's defense and he had a great amount of success.

Heck, he had one of the best plays in NFL history in the 2021 playoffs when he picked off Lamar Jackson for a 101-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Divisional Round. However, for all the great memories that Johnson created for Bills fan, it all came to an end when the Bills traded him to the Las Vegas Raiders this past offseason.

Bills got value in Taron Johnson trade

The original plan was for the Bills to just simply release Johnson. However, even though everyone knew that he would be released, the Bills landed a trade with the Raiders that involved Day 3 draft pick swap and Johnson going to Las Vegas.

After spending 8 seasons with the Bills, Johnson will now get his chance at facing his former team when the Bills face off against the Raiders this Sunday. The Bills had drafted Johnson in 2018 out of Weber State and he had played some great football throughout his tenure in Buffalo.

Now, Johnson will have the chance to get some revenge against the Bills and prove that the Bills made the wrong choice to trade him away.

Taron Johnson set up to prove Bills wrong in Week 6

Johnson had success with the Bills for a long time. He was a great corner in the slot who wasn't afraid of physicality. Then as soon as the coaching changes start to happen, Johnson ends up being traded. That may not have been the best feeling in the world for him.

Now granted, maybe he wouldn't have been a great fit for Jim Leonhard's defense. At the same time, with the way Buffalo's pass defense has been, having someone like Johnson wouldn't have been such a bad idea.

Through 5 games, Johnson has recorded 22 total tackles along with a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He's still looking for his first interception as a Raider...getting it against the Bills would be quite the story for him.
