Ex-Bills WR moves on after losing role in Buffalo’s passing attack

The Buffalo Bills have made a few changes to their wide receiver room throughout the 2025 season. Most recently, they picked up veteran Brandin Cooks, who caught one pass for 13 yards in his debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

When Cooks was brought on board last week, it pushed Elijah Moore off the roster. Moore, a second-round pick in 2021, caught just nine passes for 102 yards with a score on one of his six rushing attempts in nine games for Buffalo.

Moore, 25, didn’t have to wait long to find his fourth home in the NFL in five seasons. According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, Moore signed with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad on Tuesday. In an ironic twist, the move comes exactly one year to the day since Moore’s last 100-yard performance, which came against the Broncos.

Moore signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract to join Buffalo during the offseason. Bills fans hoped he’d translate two 100+-target seasons with the Cleveland Browns into something more productive with Josh Allen tossing him the rock, but unfortunately, that never materialized.

Moore played just 186 offensive snaps for the Bills, a lowly 31% of available snaps in the nine games he suited up for.

The Broncos hosted Treylon Burks recently before he landed with the Washington Commanders and proceeded to haul in a spectacular one-handed catch against them. They’ll settle for Moore as useful depth in an already productive wide receiver room. In Denver’s win over Washington, four of their five active roster receivers hauled in a pass.

With Cooks, 32, taking Moore’s spot in Buffalo, it will be interesting to see which can be more productive in their new homes down the stretch. Certainly, it’d be a disappointment if Moore catches on quickly in Denver and produces well for the Broncos as they sit near the top of the AFC standings heading into the playoffs.

As it stands, though, it could be net-neutral for both teams. After all, Cooks wasn’t much more productive in New Orleans than Moore was with the Bills, catching 19 passes for 165 yards through the first 10 games of the season. Hopefully, Cooks will become more of a factor in the passing game as the final weeks of the regular season progress.
