There were a great amount of trades made in the first round of the NFL Draft, and the Buffalo Bills participated in three of them from No. 26 and on. The Bills made three trades to gain extra draft picks and eventually said goodbye to the first round. They will now have the third pick in the second round where they should be looking to make a selection.

While the Bills didn’t make a selection, both the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets made multiple picks. The Jets picked three times (which included them trading back into the first round), and the Dolphins made two selections and one of them is getting heavy criticism (which should have Bills fans feeling excited).

Bills fans see Dolphins receive failing grade for drafting OL Kadyn Proctor

Brent Sobleski from Bleacher Report graded the first round picks and when it came to the Dolphins selecting Kadyn Proctor 12th overall, Sobleski gave the Dolphins a failing grade for this pick, and for good reason as well.

"The Miami Dolphins made a massive strategic mistake. The organization allowed positional and outright draft-pick greed to blur their vision of what should have been a no-brainer. Caleb Downs was graded as the No. 1 overall prospect in this year's class by the B/R Scouting Department. Proctor was viewed as a fringe first-round talent based on his play in 2025." said Sobleski.

"To be fair, Proctor did a fantastic job turning around his last season on campus. The 20-year-old left tackle entered the 2025 campaign as a highly regarded prospect with top-10 potential. But he really struggled through the early portions of the campaign. Proctor almost looked lethargic and displayed significant technique issues." said Sobleski.

The Dolphins originally had the 11th pick, but they traded it away to the Dallas Cowboys who ended up getting a major steal in Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. Coming into the first round, Downs was a major storyline of where he would land. Bills fans should be very happy that the Dolphins decided to pass on him, and then take an offensive lineman who has a ton of growing to do as he comes into the league.

Proctor certainly has the size to be a solid offensive lineman, but he is a bit of a project that the Dolphins will have to work with closely. While going with protection in the trenches is never a bad idea, the Dolphins had the chance to gift their new head coach Jeff Hafley with the best safety in this draft.

They instead went with need rather than best player available. Bills fans should be extremely excited that the Dolphins took the route they did because if Downs was drafted by Miami, he would have been a problem for the Bills for years to come.
