The Buffalo Bills have a new head coach in Joe Brady, but he’s not new to the franchise. Brady has served as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons, and has been with the franchise since 2022. While some believe that made him a conservative hire for Buffalo, Bills players are confident that the familiarity with Brady will lead to instant success.
Veteran offensive lineman Dion Dawkins explained that in an exclusive interview with FanSided, on behalf of Campbell’s Chunky. Dawkins was asked about the bittersweet moment of going from Sean McDermott to Brady, and the lineman explained that while it is tough to see McDermott go, he’s happy that Brady got the promotion. Since the new head coach already knows the team, Dawkins says Buffalo will have a great start in 2026.
Bills expect a hot start in 2026 under head coach Joe Brady
Dawkins also emphasized how important Brady’s relationship with Josh Allen is, saying the head coach and quarterback already having a great bond is the best head start Buffalo could ask for. The rest of the team will follow their lead, and that should prevent any regression for the team.
While being a head coach is entirely different than being an offensive coordinator, the Bills shouldn’t have much of an acquisition period, where they have to adjust and learn a new coach. Of course, there will be some differences, but for the most part, the guys know who Brady is, and that should allow Buffalo to hit the ground running in the offseason program and training camp.
Time will ultimately tell if that’s the case, but it’s safe to say Bills fans aren’t too concerned with the start of Buffalo’s season. The reason the franchise made a coaching change is because of the team’s performance at the end of the year. The Bills are perennial contenders, but they haven’t been able to punch their ticket to a Super Bowl, despite being one of the league’s most talented teams.
It’s Joe Brady’s job to change that. While his familiarity with the team should help his tenure start strong, that familiarity will also give him a very short leash. The Bills are a ready-to-win team, so there won’t be much patience for Brady to have growing pains as a head coach.
