The Buffalo Bills traded down three times in Round 1, one each with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, and Tennessee Titans, to move out of the first round and into the early second round. They added two additional picks and will start Day 2 selecting at 35th overall.
Brandon Beane has a recent history of trading out of the first round for more picks in the second round. Plus, at pick 35, there are still some solid players who were first-round value, but slipped into the early second round and can still fill the Bills' needs for the upcoming season.
Day 2 reliable selections Bills can take at 35th overall
DT Kayden McDonald - Ohio State
McDonald was a guy the Bills could have selected with the 26th pick overall, but the 6-foot 3, 326-pound athlete kept sliding, which allowed the Bills to trade their way out of the first round.
He is a big tackle with power moves and great hands to stop the run. He is very athletic for a nose tackle and can play either the 3-technique or 4i technique nose positions in the Bills' 3-4 defense.
What he lacks in pass rush, he makes up for it with the ability to stop the run and do it very well.
LB C.J. Allen - University of Georgia
The Bills could use an impact and instinctive linebacker for their 3-4 scheme, and Allen fits that mold. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound thumper plays with high intensity, with strong hit power, and also with a great motor.
He is a tackling machine and can also pressure the quarterback with his power moves and physical play.
EDGE T.J. Parker - Clemson
Parker is the type of big, powerful edge rusher that Beane has preferred to draft during his time as General Manager. After drafting AJ Epesena in 2020 and Greg Rousseau in 2021, Parker would be no exception.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound EDGE can bulldoze his way through offensive linemen and bring down the quarterback with some violence and force. He is another prospect the Bills thought would be there at No. 26 to take, but things happen, and this time, it was for the best.
Parker could be either a left or right EDGE or even an outside linebacker to partner up with big Rousseau and powerful Bradley Chubb in Buffalo's 3-4 defense.
WR Denzel Boston - Washington
This former Huskie alum is a dawg and a big one for sure. At 6-foot-4, 209 pounds, Boston has both bark and bite, with his size and physicality to jump over smaller cornerbacks and come down with the special-catch plays.
Washington can also get it done in the running game, as he is strong enough to be able to block for superstar running back James Cook.
Out of all of these players who fell to the second round, CJ Allen is the most surprising because early mocks had him as a projected top-5 to top-10 pick in the first round early on in the process, and when he kept falling, the Bills had a chance to take him.
Now we will have to see what Beane has up his sleeve for tonight.
