The Buffalo Bills decided that no player was worth taking in the first round yesterday, which explained why they traded down three times before eventually going out of the first round. They made trades with the Texans, Patriots, and Titans to leave the first round, but gain some extra picks going into tonight and tomorrow.
Buffalo will now pick early in the second round at No. 35, sitting behind only the 49ers and Cardinals. That second round pick that many people thought was too precious to give up for D.J. Moore is now back in Buffalo’s hands. Now it’s up to Brandon Beane to start bringing in talent and filling out this roster.
While the Bills need to focus on defense, there is a chance that maybe Buffalo will go and bring in another wide receiver for Josh Allen. That wouldn’t be the worst idea that they have, but there is one specific receiver that the Bills should be avoiding.
Bills should be avoiding drafting WR Denzel Boston
This is not to say that Boston isn’t a solid player. He definitely has the tools to be a solid receiver in this league. However, the Bills have already been down the route of drafting a bigger receiver and that was Keon Coleman two years ago. Clearly, that hasn’t worked out up to this point. But with Joe Brady now stepping in as the head coach, maybe things will look up for Coleman.
Buffalo should not be looking to repeat this kind of history by going after a big receiver that has a similar playing style as Coleman. Why draft another receiver like that? They are better off going with a route runner or a speedy option who can stretch the field opposite of D.J. Moore.
No one can deny the production that Boston could bring, considering that he has 20 touchdowns in the last two seasons at Washington. However, the Bills need to focus on building up the defense first with their first pick in the second round. There is no other receiver worth taking early on in the second round other than Boston, but the Bills don’t need Boston.
The second round kicks off later tonight and Bills Mafia won’t have to wait long to see what the Bills decide to do to start building up their rookie draft class.
