There’s no question that the Buffalo Bills have one of the best offensive units in the league through the first month. They only rank behind the Dallas Cowboys in total yards, but they lead the league in rushing yards per game with 163.5 yards per game, with the next closest team being the Washington Commanders at 154.8 yards, per ESPN.
The Bills are the offense in the top five that hasn’t passed for 1,000 yards on the season, yet they are 4-0 and Josh Allen looks like the best player in football yet again. It goes to show you just how great this unit has been through four games.
This Sunday night, they are welcoming the New England Patriots, whose defense ranks in the middle of the pack. Sometimes they play well, and other times they don’t. Either way, with this being a divisional game, it’s going to be a close one. The Patriots are considered to be the toughest challenge that the Bills will have within the AFC East and we will see the first test in primetime under the lights in Orchard Park.
The Bills' offense may have to be the reason (once again) why Buffalo advances to 5-0, but it can't be just the Josh Allen show. There are other players on offense that have to come up big time for the Bills.
Bills offensive players who need to step up vs. Patriots
TE Dalton Kincaid
Dalton Kincaid has already caught 14 passes off of 18 targets for 179 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also already has been responsible for 9 first downs, making him a safety valve for Allen and the offense in crucial moments.
The Bills could easily face a good amount of third down situations and this is where Kincaid will need to come up clutch, especially if it’s close near the end of the game.
RB Ray Davis
To be fair, maybe we can’t put a backup running back on this list especially given the fact of how well James Cook has been this season. Ray Davis has only had 11 carries this season, but he’s only averaging 2.6 yards per carry. When he gets his chance to get on the field, he has to make more of his opportunity.
Obviously, the Patriots will be focused on containing Cook, but Davis has to take pressure off of the offense as well when he gets the ball.
Interior OL
The offensive line for the Bills has been solid this season, but they did give up 3 sacks last week against the Saints. The Patriots have a better defensive line and will be looking to cause disruption to Buffalo.
It’s important for David Edwards, Connor McGovern, and O’Cyrus Torrence to hold their ground and keep from the pocket collapsing up the middle. The last thing we need is Allen being forced out the pocket just to be met with a blitz from the outside.
