The Buffalo Bills are heading into an offseason where they have mounting pressure to build a Super Bowl winning roster. After years of “almost”, fans need to see some improvements from their team, and there could be some bold moves coming from this front office to build that championship roster.

Buffalo hasn’t been shy of going all out for a player, from Stefon Diggs, to Von Miller, to the trade that almost sent Antonio Brown to Buffalo. You can expect at least some chatter this offseason, if not a move happening. So, what bold moves could be in store for 2025?

Bills trade a first and second-round pick for Myles Garrett

Buffalo lands the dominant pass rusher they were hoping for from Von Miller, just three years later. The Bills won’t be able to get him cheap, however, and likely will have to cough up some high draft picks. For a pass rusher who’s had 102 sacks in eight seasons and has a lot of good football left in him, those draft picks won’t matter if you can pair him with Greg Rousseau long-term.

Garrett still has two more seasons left on his contract and a combined $40M cap hit before he becomes a free agent in 2027 according to Spotrac. A trade to Buffalo likely would come with an extension as well, ensuring Buffalo locks in Garrett past 2027. A potential extension could land right around $30M per year, the same number that ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (subscription required) mentioned for Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson’s next contract.

The Bills stand pat, allowing James Cook to play out the last year of his contract

While I say this, I should make it clear by saying James Cook deserves his contract extension. Will the Bills sign him this offseason? Likely not. Buffalo has multiple contracts to take care of not including Cook. The Bills have had terrific production from their run game, that also consisted of Ty Johnson and Ray Davis. Buffalo could let him test the open market in 2026 and see what he’s worth, while also paying other star players such as Terrel Bernard, Khalil Shakir, and Christian Benford.

With Cook asking for $15M per year on his next contract, they could likely prioritize other players first, while Cook is left on the back burner. While they reward their own players with extensions, they’ll also need to fill in some holes on their depth chart, making any contract extension tricky these next few months.
